Today I managed to lock Oscar (22months) in the car. Well actually he managed to lock himself in the car. I strapped Oscar in the car seat and he grabbed my keys. I wasn't thinking and let him have them and shut the door. I went to put the pram away and groceries and shut the boot.

Went to open the door of the car and went "oh no!" He had pressed the lock button. Our car is a modern car so there was no way of getting in. I was telling Oscar to press the button but he was shaking his head and saying "no mummy". Then he dropped them on the floor lol. It was getting quite warm in the car so I was really worried.

There was a nice old man watching and he offered to ring RACV for me. Was just about to do so when Oscar did his new trick for me. He wound the window down !! But just a little bit to tease me lol. I encouraged him and encouraged him till I could get my hand in and reach the keys. That trick I have been trying to discourage for so long actually came in handy. Funny how the tables can turn.

Thanks to the nice man for all his encouragement and advice. I think I would have just freaked out if he wasn't there calming me down. Thanks to Oscar being so smart and managing to get himself out of a trick situation. I love you babe.

Today I found out that a person who I admired very much had lost his battle with cancer. Shortly after oscar was born he started waking up every 15 minutes and battling with reflux. A friend reccomended Chiro Kids which is a baby and kids chiropractic group. I made an appointment and turned up to meet a lovely chiropracter Adam.
Since then he has seen me, Oscar and Thomas and fixed all of our problems. One of us has been in there weekly since Oscar was born. At first I was sceptical but Adam managed to solve all kinds of problems like reflux, migraines, Oscar not rolling over, Thomas concentration, sleep problems. It was amazing what he could do.
Over the time Adam and I became friends and our appointments began to be lovely discussions and catchups. He told me a lot about his life in South Africa previously and his kids. I confided in him about my fears about Thomas autism, how he would cope with school and my hopes and dreams for me and my kids in the future.
He was one of those people that will go out of their way just to help. He would always make time to see me and the children and never minded if the kids played with his stuff. My children would light up at the sight of his happy smiling face. He gently encouraged me to take more time for my self and to rest more. He was never judgemental just supportive.
One morning I had an appointment and he wasnt there. There was someone filling in for him. He never came back to work. I found out this was because he had been diagnosed with colon cancer and there was no treatment options. It was a big suprise to hear one day he was suddenly told that the cancer was spread right through his body and he had 3 months to live. He passed away yesterday morning after he detiorated quickly.

Goodbye Adam. I hope you realise how good a person you were and how many lives you touched. You will be sadly missed. May you rest in peace.

I did a bit of op shopping today and found some really cool fabrics and a huge bundle of bamboo knitting needles in all different sizes. The nice op shop guy thought the original price was a bit steep so he reduced it for me. Lovely boy think I will have to go when he is there next time!

There was a bright yellow retro tablecloth, a white with blue and green paisley fabric and a purple and green fabric. Would love to make a pair of funky kids pants with the yellow material the rest I don't know yet. I love getting fabric from the op shop it is so much cheaper and more unique. It means that a project out of the material is thought of with a particular material in mind. The different colours and textures are so inspiring.
I also got a package in the mail! The silly parcel man won't drive down our driveway to deliver the parcels because it is dirt road for 500m lol so he just leaves the card in the letterbox which is at the end of the gravel. Quite annoying because I cant see him coming and know I have exciting stuff on the way.

Anyway I did get it in the end and it was a package from The Knittery. I now have some lovely wool in a sea blue green mix and an earthy green, blue , red mix. Its so soft I can't wait to start knitting with it. Just have to decide what to do with it. Will definetly be for Oscar this winter though. How bad am I buying wool before I know what I want to do with it. Definetly an impulse buy lol.

Also in my Knittery parcel was a book called One Skein by Leigh Radford. It is 30 projects to knit and crochet using only one skein. Great to use up some stash I have. What does one skein equate to in grams I wonder? If anyone knows I would love to know. There is a funky cardigan in there that I would love to try for Oscar.
And here are two other pictures. You will have to look at them sideways because I can't work out to turn them. Guess I had to do it before I uploaded them? Anyway one is of Oscar monkey wearing a beanie i knitted in chunky wool. The second is a pair of funky rainbow pants I made for him.

This is my gorgeous Thomas on his first day of school. He is loving school. I was worried about how he would cope being that he has autism and developmental delays but he has really suprised me. I picked a small country school in the hope that he would settle in better. The school only has one prep class with 15 kids in it. The whole school only has 90 students in it. I have found that the kids are really friendly and look out for the little ones. They are taught a lot of respect for others and they have a diversity policy which is basically about respecting the fact everyone is different. I am so happy that all is going well. It has taken a load of my mind. May it continue!

Have been thinking about what to do on the long weekend coming up. Spent some time with Petes sister and brother and we decided we should do something. As it is going to be a warm weekend we thought we would try to fit in one more trip to the beach. We have a usual holiday house that we rent in Barwon heads but that wasn't available this weekend. I did some research and found a brilliant and possibly better house for the same price. Its all booked now.

I am so excited as the house sleeps 10 and we will have some of our closest friends and family members there. Its going to be so good hanging out, cooking meals and going to the beach with them. I love that communal atmosphere.

Am currently working on a pair of longies for my sister in law soon to be newborn. I am also working on a bag which has the most gorgeous pink paisley on the inside and green and white dots on the outside. Sounds weird but the combination really works.

Oscar went down for his nap so easily today and I felt inspired. This is the end result. Its amazing what you can do with an hour without children. I love this bag so much I want to keep it for myself lol. Am really happy with the colours and the applique on the front. The inside is a vintage Sheridan sheet and the outside is a gorgeous blue material I got from the op shop. All up I think the bag cost about $5 to make

Today I was home alone with Oscar and he was intently playing with Mr Potato head. The concentration and effort he was putting into it was immense. I had to take this photo of him intensly concentrating and sticking his tongue out to do it. Reminds me so much of me as I do exactly the same thing.
It makes me realise that he has grown up so much and he isnt my baby anymore. It makes me really sad but happy at the same time. I welcome the independence that this stage brings but I just feel like I haven't had enough time with him as a baby.
He is already starting to become more independent. He wont sit in a high chair anymore it has to be a seat like us at the table. He wont drink out of a sippy cup anymore it has to be a glass like everyone else. He is trying to use the potty and the toilet. He wont play with baby toys they have to be the ones Thomas is playing with. He can ask for "read this" and "play this" and "more bickies"
I measured him this morning as I was sure he was tall for his age. He is 95cm tall!! At 22 months old! On the good old MCHN charts he is off the charts in height. He certainly takes after his daddy.

Finally I have succumbed to the tempation to write a blog. I have become addicted to several blogs and eagerly await updates. I love the sneak peak inside everyday lives. I also half did this so I could finally post comments on other peoples blogs lol. I originally thought that my life is too boring to blog about but hey I plan to challenge that view.

I am the mum of three gorgeous boys , Nicholas 8 , Thomas 6 and Oscar 21 months. Thomas has autism and has just started school this year. He has suprised me so much and is really loving it. I think the small country school he goes to has made the transition so much easier. I really love the school he is at. I stressed for the whole of 2006 about how he was going to go at school and how he would cope. If someone had said to me last year that he would be fine and it would all go perfectly i would have laughed at them but that is exactly what has happened.

When I get the chance I also love to be creative. I like to knit and sew and I have just recently tried out dying my own wool. I have been sewing bags and childrens clothes in the aim of starting up a market stall. The aim is to have a market stall once a month and provide some kind of income for this household while enjoying my craft. I just need to get the courage to actually get to the market and sell my stuff. I have the fear that my stuff just isn't good enough. Which is probably irrational considering a lot of people have complemented me on different things I have made. The fear of failure or rejection is just too big. Think I will drag a friend along for some positive imput when I finally make it to the market.

I am addicted to thrifting ( as they call it in the US). I am into vintage fabrics and clothes and love anything with a story or some character. I find a lot of vintage fabric at the opshops which I use to create unique bags. There will be frequent updates on my many op shop finds.

I love to read and I have been getting into biographies and autobiographies lately. I am currently reading Richard Branson losing my virginity and the Bali 9 story.

My goal for the month of March is to organise a day and site for my market stall and actually go!
I want to start regular exercise again. Swim at least once a week and go for regular walks.
